fda’s most dangerous food

According the FDA: The Most Dangerous Food in America

When you think of the FDA’s Top Ten List of Most-Dangerous-Foods-in-America, what comes to mind?  More specifically, what kind of garbage do you think might make it to the top of the list?  Could be TRANS FATS — the artificial, man made fats that are associated with heart disease, high cholesterol, DIABETES, arthritis, and dozens of other deadly diseases.

Or it might be HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP, the bad-news sugar that is found in just about every processed food product under the sun, and being tied to almost every imaginable health problem (HERE).  And with the rates of GLUTEN SENSITIVITY going thru the roof, it might just be wheat and / or other modern hybridized or genetically modified grains that have the FDA so worried.

Even store-bought milk comes to mind because of the fact it is pasteurized, homogenized, and loaded with growth hormones, and ANTIBIOTICS (but this, of course, is exactly what the FDA wants).   None of these answers would be correct.  Not even close.

Although you may tend to think of a HFCS-laden Mars Bars that was deep fried in Trans Fat as the most dangerous food. If that was your guess, you just failed the quiz.  According to the FDA, the number one offender on their list of Top Ten Riskiest Foods is (I’m not making this up) Green Leafy Vegetables.  The FDA’s list of ‘dangerous’ Green Leafies specifically included things like iceberg lettuce, romaine lettuce, leaf lettuce, butter lettuce, baby leaf lettuce, escarole, endive, spring mix, spinach, cabbage, kale, arugula, and chard.

But mom always told me that these were good for me.  This begs the question of why.  Why, according to the FDA, are Green Leafy Vegetables the ‘riskiest’ foods we could possibly consume here in America?  Here it is.

CSPI identified 363 separate outbreaks linked to leafy greens, making them the number one entry in the FDA Top Ten. Salads and other food items containing leafy greens… sickened over 13,568 people who were reported to have become ill.

Wow; 13,600 people got “ill” from eating Green Leafy Vegetables.  Don’t get me wrong; this is not a good thing, but let’s put it in perspective.  There are approximately 3,000 counties in the United States, with an average population of a bit over 100,000 per.  This means that roughly one person per year, per 22,000 US citizens, became ill (food poisoning) as the result of consuming Green Leafy Vegetables.  Having weighed the evidence, I would say that mom’s advice is still as good as gold.  The risk / benefit ratio here is absurdly low.  Eat your Green Leafies!

On the other hand, Trans Fats are known to kill somewhere between 20,000 – 30,000 people per year in the US (according to government statistics) —– and they did not even make the list.  But while we are talking about the FDA, let’s go one better.  Drugs and surgical errors are said to kill well over half a million people per year here in America (HERE & HERE).  I have shown you repeatedly in my blog posts that the FDA is not doing their job.

Despite putting on a good show at times, they are just about as deeply in bed with Big Pharma, Big Food, and Big Tobacco as you can get.  If you are one of those people who are fretting and worrying about consuming Green Leafy Vegetables, you likely need to spend a bit more time learning about what it takes to get truly healthy.  HERE & HERE are great places to start.
